Sainsbury’s Big Christmas Mission
This Christmas season, Sainsbury’s has a mission: to donate over 5 million meals to families facing food poverty. They’re teaming up with Comic Relief to make this happen, and they want customers to join in by purchasing some delicious mince pies.
How Mince Pies Can Help Families
Every Pack Counts
Throughout December, every penny from each pack of by Sainsbury’s and Free From Classic Mince Pies sold will go to Comic Relief. Sainsbury’s hopes to sell over a million packs, which means a lot of people can enjoy their Christmas treat while making a difference for others.
How to Support
In addition to buying mince pies, customers can help by donating money at the till or online, rounding up their purchases, or even giving their points through the Nectar app. Sainsbury’s also has donation points in stores for customers who want to give groceries directly to their local communities.

A Heartfelt Message from Sainsbury’s
Ruth Cranston, Sainsbury’s Director of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability, explained, “Christmas is a magical time for many, but it’s the hardest time of year for families facing food poverty. We’re committed to working with our customers and Comic Relief to donate over five million meals. Knowing that a festive treat like mince pies can help others will make it even more special this year.”
Comic Relief’s Gratitude
Samir Patel, CEO of Comic Relief, added, “For families already struggling, winter brings fear and worry. Food poverty is more urgent than ever. We’re so grateful to Sainsbury’s and its customers for their ongoing support in providing essential food to those in greatest need through the Nourish the Nation programme.”
More Ways to Make a Difference
Festive Sandwiches and Gifts
From now until December 31st, Sainsbury’s will donate 10 pence for every festive sandwich sold. They’re also contributing £200,000 from the sales of popular Nourish the Nation Christmas gifts and decorations to help families in need.
Supporting FareShare and Local Organisations
All donations go to FareShare, a charity that redistributes food to those in need, as well as local organisations that provide balanced meals and support to families. This also helps reduce food waste across the UK.
