SPAR Gran Canaria Backs Local Farmers and Fresh Produce

SPAR Gran Canaria is committed to supporting local farmers and bringing the freshest fruit and vegetables to the island. As the top seller of produce on Gran Canaria, SPAR continues to focus on quality and sustainability.

Local Bananas with Top Quality

SPAR Gran Canaria sells around 2 million kilos of Canarian bananas every year. They manage the entire ripening process, ensuring the fruit is perfect for customers. Certified by Agrocolor, these bananas meet strict food safety and freshness standards. After ripening, they are stored and transported in returnable boxes to minimize damage, cut down on packaging, and keep them fresh. This process also helps reduce food waste by 10 tonnes each year.

Fresh Reineta Apples from Local Farmers

SPAR Gran Canaria has renewed its deal with seven farmers from Valleseco to sell locally grown Reineta apples. This agreement, now in its third year, guarantees between 12 and 14 tonnes of apples at a fair price, supported by the Government of the Canary Islands. The farmers also get personalized advice and marketing support in SPAR supermarkets. SPAR even provides storage facilities to make sure the apples reach customers in peak condition.

SPAR Gran Canaria’s efforts strengthen local agriculture and bring the freshest produce to their customers, helping both the community and the environment.
